Background

On January 22, 1973, seven justices of the U.S. Supreme Court issued two rulings stating that an unborn child is not a person and could therefore be killed for any reason or no reason at all. These rulings, known as the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions, have resulted in the death of over 45 million unborn babies and tragic consequences for millions of women and men over the last 36 years.

Every year on January 22, millions of Americans gather across the country to commemorate the lives lost to abortion and to take a stand for the sanctity of life. Here in Arizona, thousands of dedicated pro-lifers gather throughout the state to express their support for a culture and government which protects and affirms life. This year will be no exception as we gather united for life to express our sadness, memories, support and resolve to pursue changes in our laws and culture.

Because this event is both a ceremony commemorating the lives lost and affected by abortion and a time to show our support for the sanctity of life, we approach the occasion with sadness, compassion, commitment and resolve to make a difference to change our culture and laws to respect life.

We March
	As a demonstration of unity and solidarity, we will march on the front lines of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility located at 1250 E. Apache Blvd., Suite 108, Tempe, AZ 85281. During the march, we will carry signs and banners that share the message of stopping abortion and choosing life. By marching, we will provide a very visible demonstration of support for the pro-life mission.

We Pray
During portions of the rally, we will pray for forgiveness for the sin of abortion; compassion for the women, men and children tragically affected by abortion, thanksgiving for the many victories the pro-life movement has received, inspiration to continue seeking life-affirming solutions, and the direction for how we can bring about a culture and laws that respect life.

We Act
	During the rally, we hope everyone will be encouraged to get involved in the pro-life movement. Various speakers will offer powerful messages to inspire you to make a difference. Many organizations, all serving critical roles, will be present to offer resources, services and ways to get involved. Your action is crucial and we welcome your involvement in 2009!

When You Attend
We encourage you to bring your family, your friends and your church to the rally. You are welcome to bring food and drinks and enjoy the fellowship of family and friends. We also encourage you to bring your children but ask that you watch where they are.
